The Units and Packaging tab allows you to define the packaging used for buying or selling an item. The basic unit used for inventory management is defined in the General tab of the item record.

1. Open the Articles menu > Articles .
2. Double-click on the relevant item to open its details page.
3. In the General tab, Price area, fill in the Base Unit field.
   This unit serves as a reference for stock movements and quantity calculations.
   When the basic unit is registered, a line is automatically created in the Units and Packaging tab.
4. Click on the Units and Packaging tab.
5. In the Packaging list, click on New .
   
   
   

6. In the New Packaging window, under Packaging , fill in the following fields:
   
   
   
   
6. Unit : unit used for selling or buying.
   
7. Quantity of basic units : number of basic units contained in this packaging.
   
8. In the Default area, activate the option corresponding to the use of the conditioning:
   
6. Sales, default condition : packaging automatically offered in sales documents.
   
7. Purchases, default conditions : packaging automatically suggested in purchase documents.
   
   
7. Click OK to save the settings.
8. Click on Back to return to the product page.
9. Repeat the previous steps for each additional package.
10. Click OK to save the changes to the product record.
    

The created packaging options are available when the item is selected in sales and purchase documents. The default packaging options are automatically suggested during data entry.

The basic unit of measurement may differ from the packaging. For example, the basic unit of inventory may be the kilogram, while the company only buys or sells bags weighing several kilograms. In this example, inventory is managed in kilograms for accurate quantity tracking, but commercial transactions are never conducted in individual kilograms, only in bags.
